Getting paid

# PayPal won’t let me receive money. What can I use?

**The problem**“My client wants to pay me by PayPal, but my account can only send money.”

**Take card payments through a Merchant of Record and get paid to your bank.** In 11 of the 85 countries we checked, PayPal cannot receive money at all, including North Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Turkey. Your client pays by card instead, and you are paid in EUR or USD twice a month.

Where it happens

## Where can’t *PayPal* receive?

In [our check of 85 payout countries](https://agentaos.ai/countries) on 6 October 2026, PayPal could not receive in **11**: not listed at all in Bangladesh, Kosovo, Pakistan and Turkey (PayPal left Turkey in 2016), and send-only in Montenegro, Nepal, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Tanzania, Ukraine and Zambia. Where it works, withdrawals cost extra, for example 550 RSD per withdrawal in Serbia.

The knock-on effect

## Why do other platforms *fail too*?

Lemon Squeezy and Gumroad fall back to PayPal where they have no bank route, so they fail in the same countries.

Step by step

## How do I *get paid instead*?

1. **Turn the job into a product or package** with a fixed price, one-time or monthly.

2. **Send a checkout link**; your client pays by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

3. **Receive a payout** to your EUR or USD bank account on the 1st or 15th, or to a stablecoin wallet in Kosovo.

Common mistakes

## What should I *avoid*?

- **Registering PayPal in a neighbouring country**Withdrawals get limited when your details don’t match; people in Kosovo report exactly this.
- **Using a relative’s account abroad**The money is legally theirs, and a frozen account freezes your income.

Questions

### My PayPal account was suspended. How do I get paid now?

PayPal usually keeps the balance of a permanently limited account for 180 days to cover refunds and disputes; its user agreement allows that, as UK Financial Ombudsman decisions describe. For new sales, use a checkout that pays out to your own bank: a merchant of record works without a PayPal or Stripe account. See Stripe and PayPal alternatives.

### Can I use a PayPal account from another country?

Only if you live there. Mismatched details get accounts limited at withdrawal.

### How fast do I get paid?

Each sale clears in 14 days; payouts run on the 1st and the 15th.
