2Checkout alternative for sellers outside Stripe’s countries

The problem“2Checkout declined me, or holds my funds, and Stripe does not open accounts where I live.”

The best 2Checkout alternative depends on where you live and what you sell. If you sell software, SaaS or digital products from a country Stripe does not serve, AgentaOS is a merchant of record that publishes its fee (4.5% + €0.50 per card sale, 6.0% + €0.50 for cards issued outside the EEA), accepts individuals and pays out to 86 countries. Paddle, FastSpring, PayPro Global, Lemon Squeezy and Dodo Payments are the other merchant-of-record options.

The short answer

Is 2Checkout a merchant of record?

Only on its top tier. 2Checkout, now part of Verifone, sells three plans. 2Sell and 2Subscribe are payment plans with published fees. Merchant Maverick reports that the merchant-of-record option sits on 2Monetize, “an optional Merchant of Record model for digital goods”, priced by custom quote (Merchant Maverick, updated 20 July 2026). On 2Sell and 2Subscribe, the sales tax and VAT on each sale stay with you.

With a merchant of record, the provider is the official seller. It charges the buyer’s sales tax or VAT, files it, issues the invoice in its own name and handles chargebacks. AgentaOS works this way on every plan.

Sources: 2Checkout tiers as reported by Merchant Maverick, updated 20 July 2026; 2Checkout’s own pricing page blocks automated checks, so confirm there before you choose. AgentaOS from the AgentaOS pricing docs, checked 6 November 2026. Paddle, Lemon Squeezy and Dodo Payments from our fee pages, which link each provider’s own pricing page. AgentaOS charges in euros, the others in US dollars.

If most of your buyers are in the US: a US card is issued outside the EEA, so on AgentaOS it costs 6.0% + €0.50. That is more than 2Subscribe’s 4.5% + $0.45 before the cross-border fee, and AgentaOS also handles the sales tax and VAT, which 2Subscribe leaves with you. If your buyers are mostly in Europe, AgentaOS adds nothing for EEA cards.

Why people leave

Why sellers look for a 2Checkout alternative

The reasons people post are declines, held funds and price quotes they cannot get. These are individual reports, not proof of what is typical:

  • A founder on Indie Hackers wrote that they were rejected by 2Checkout after about two weeks of back-and-forth, and planned to apply to Paddle next.
  • One G2 reviewer reported a six-year account closed with funds held for 180 days (G2 reviews).
  • Merchant Maverick lists “frequent reports of held funds” as a con and notes that 2Checkout runs a rolling reserve (source).

2Checkout does accept individuals: its signup has an “Individual or Sole proprietorship” option that asks for your national ID and proof of address (2Checkout docs). A decline is usually about the product, the risk review or missing documents, and 2Checkout is the only one who can tell you which.

Before you move

What AgentaOS does not take

Check this before you move. AgentaOS is the official seller, so what you sell becomes what we sell. Under our Acceptable Use Policy and Terms, we do not take:

  • Physical goodsor anything that needs shipping.
  • Custom or per-client workwhere the scope or deliverable is agreed separately with each client, such as bespoke websites, apps or agency projects.
  • Time-based workwhose main value is your hours, such as consulting or coaching sold by the hour.

Services qualify only as a fixed-price package: the same deliverable, price and delivery time for every buyer, set in advance, and approved for your account. “Website audit, 20-page PDF, 5 working days” works. “Design work, price on request” does not. How to price a package.

Step by step

How to switch from 2Checkout in 7 steps

  1. Check that your product fits. Software, SaaS, digital products, courses and memberships fit most merchants of record. Services fit AgentaOS only as fixed-price packages; Paddle and Lemon Squeezy do not take pure services.
  2. Check that the provider pays out to your country. Pick your country on the country checker and confirm the currency (EUR or USD) and the route to your bank.
  3. Work out your real fee from where your buyers are. Split last quarter’s sales by card country. US and UK cards are outside the EEA, so use 6.0% + €0.50 for those on AgentaOS and 4.5% + €0.50 for EEA cards. Compare with the table above.
  4. List what you have in 2Checkout. Write down each product, price, billing period, trial, discount code and active subscriber with their next renewal date.
  5. Sign up and verify. On AgentaOS you sign up as an individual or a company, verify your identity and bank account, and create your products. Setup costs €0.
  6. Move your subscribers. Plan for each subscriber to enter their card once on your new checkout link before their next renewal. Ask 2Checkout support whether it can transfer saved cards; we have not confirmed that it does.
  7. Run both until the last renewal moves. Swap the buy buttons on your site, keep 2Checkout open for the remaining renewals and any refunds, then close it. Keep each payout statement and self-billed invoice for your accountant.

Questions

Common questions

Is 2Checkout a merchant of record?
